Everything starts in a dream I had in France in which I tell my mother that I am going back to Brazil’s remote interior to look for the hundreds of children that my grandmother, Aurora, a midwife and a healer, helped bring to life. From one encounter to another, with the living and with the dead, the film follows the traces of Aurora’s ghost, confronting the structural violence, of both gender and race, embedded in Brazil’s historical genesis as well as the resistance of women against it. An offering, a reckoning with ancestral debts.
